Abstract: IFOS will design, develop, and mature fiber optic based ultra-high temperature (UHT) sensor technology for blade tip clearance and vibration measurements. In Phase-I, IFOS will identify the fiber optic UHT sensor technology details including fiber sensor material, sensor mounting, sensor tip coating, and methods of integration with turbin
Benefits: The proposed sensor system can be used in a wide range of gas turbine generators and also rotary propulsion systems such as rotorcraft and aircraft engines. Initial application will be in turbine engine test cells and Joint Strike Fighter engines. The proposed optical sensor system can also be integrated in the future distributed control systems especially as a part of gas turbine active tip clearance control system.
