Abstract: The mission of H2Volt is to produce a long lasting fuel cell based mobile power source with a degree of magnitude capacity improvement over today's batteries. H2Volt power system uses patent pending fuel cell system integrated with a replaceable solid chemical fuel cartridge. Dr. Zhou, inventor of the technology, has over 7 year of battery and fuel cell research and development experience. H2Volt proposes to explore and demonstrate the feasibility of a "fuel cell battery" that generates 10-500mW constant power with 10 times energy capacity of alkaline battery, a life of 5+ years, easy integration with wireless sensors, and zero maintenance for the life of the sensor. It will develop a novel method of self-regulating, passive, "air breather" fuel cell that requires no moving parts, but maintains sufficient hydration of the membrane to provide stable and reliable power. The project will perform limited prototyping, testing, structural and finite element analysis simulations to validate the design. Initial commercialization efforts will be through OEMs as a primary power of mobile electronic devices. In military applications, the strengths of solid fuel, increases in energy densities and shelf life, lightweight, safety and environmental benefits will make H2Volt system an ideal solution.
Benefits: H2Volt products will provide significantly improved power solutions for the emerging wireless sensor, and expanding mobile device markets. H2Volt's technology will deliver ten times more power and offer a virtually infinite shelf life, at cost comparable to today's high-end batteries. H2Volt fuel cell battery is also ideal for environmentally conscious market, a large and growing segment of today's economy, as its by products are benign and completely environmentally friendly. These features are significant as it solves some of the most challenging problems with today's battery. H2Volt's integrated fuel cell battery is scalable and could eventually be applied in most everything that will required from 1W to 1KW of power. H2Volt's entry into commercialization will be through powering the mobile electronic devices, an industry with annual worldwide sales of $3.2 billion. In addition to the current DOD mandate to expand and improve soldier power, the use of fuel cell in providing power has spread out to primary, auxiliary, portable, charging, and stand-by power. To expand market share H2Volt's plans to continue its existing efforts to partner with private industry to incorporate elements of its proprietary technology into much larger platforms. All of H2Volt's work in this area is transferable to multiple fuel cell designs, including stationary and primary power greater than 1KW. H2Volt stays current with industry leaders to ensure that its technology conforms to requirements of industry both for a reliable and long lasting power with qualities of safe, cost effective and lightweight benefits. Validation in the long lasting sensor power application will help establish credibility of fuel cell batteries in critical application such as primary long lasting stationary power. Experts also predict that fuel cell technologies may eventually replace the alkaline base batteries, resulting in a mammoth market across the retail sector. A fuel cell battery that is cost effective and environmentally friendly will definitely contribute significantly in cleaning up toxic waste the world is generating in our land fills. If H2Volt is successful in commercializing and scaling its technology, the company stands to gain substantially from the escalating power market. H2Volt's mobile portable power technology once proven, will find rapid acceptance in other industries such as building construction, marine applications, aerospace and others. In the Navy or Marines, worldwide applications of compact, quiet, long lasting power and hi-endurance could return the greatest cost and functional benefits. Operations and support costs in the marine environment stand to gain the most. H2Volt is prepared to match government development funds with private equity investment to commercialize this technology. If successful, H2VOLT will bring back some manufacturing jobs lost to overseas competition.
