Abstract: |
3D reinforcement of ceramic matrix composites may have the potential to improve inter-laminar mechanical properties of CMCs, however, the impact on cost to implement the use of 3D woven performs may be high. A novel approach will be taken that will permit the continued use of 2D fabric and standard autoclave molding conditions of a reinforced pre-ceramic polymer matrix. A modified pre-ceramic polymer will be used to prepare composites in this feasibility demonstration. Flexural and shear tests will be run on both enhanced 2D and conventional 2D composites to discern differences in mechanical properties. |
Benefits: |
Improved inter-laminar properties of high temperatures CMCs. |
