Abstract: |
RCI has demonstrated a pre-ceramic polymer process approach that produces uniform thin (1 micron) coatings with tailorable silicon to boron (nitrides) content. SiBN interfaces with high silicon content and thermally stable morphology that can be economically applied to fiber preforms are of great interest. This process can be use as a fiber "pre-preg" process or as a 3D preform interface coating process. |
Benefits: |
Active work is underway at several locations to develop industrial gas turbine hot section components based on SiC/SiC CMC materials. The hot section materials market is extremely large-in excess of $2B annually. This technology can assist in that commercialization once the Navy JSF needs are fully addressed. |
