Abstract: |
A multiband SATCOM terminal solution is identified conforming to low profile rotary wing aircraft constraints. The architecture incorporates commercially available RF electronics and components in a unique package that precludes manual reconfiguration to support alternate SATCOM datalinks. This combined with dual antenna diversity combining makes operations sufficiently robust to support uninterrupted video links even as the aircraft orientation causes one antenna to become obstructed from the satellite line of sight direction. The proposed Phase 1 program will demonstrate system viability with early subsystem prototypes along with detailed system design to quantify final package size, weight and power. |
Benefits: |
The proposed technology will provide beyond line of sight connectivity using all possible SATCOM bands supporting wideband data rates. Once fielded on rotary wing aircraft, video links of operations can be shared with command centers to facilitate rapid exchange of mission status and awareness. |
