Abstract: |
The Aret team proposes development of SCULPT, an ISIS application for rapidly creating 3D models from 2D images of passing ships. The acronym is derived from the algorithm fundamentals; that is, Ship Model Creation from Unregistered Imagery, Library Source-Data, and Periscope Targeting. SCULPT will build a 3D ship model with sufficient precision for future ATR comparison by adding a small number of target images collected onboard to a reference library of openly-available silhouettes and dimensional information. |
Benefits: |
To be effective worldwide an ATR capability must be supported by a vast database of 3D models that represent thousands of potential ship-types. The Navy seeks to equip the submarine with software that rapidly generates a 3D model of any target sighted through the periscope. The model database would continue to expand with each new target encounter, growing to world-wide applicability. |
